Big Idea: Glorify God for the incredible Jesus, who recruits the unworthy, cleanses the unclean, honours the faithful friends and forgives the immovable sinner
1. Recruited: Jesus calls the unworthy to catch people (5:1–11)
2. Cleansed: the willing Lord touches the unclean (5:12–16)

Big Idea: God sent Jesus to tell the gospel, and he would not waver before contempt or confusion. Now that you have heard it, respond with consecrated service.
1. Jesus would not waver before contempt, from people or demons (vv.16–35)
2. Jesus would not linger with those confused about him, even though they needed his healing (vv.36–44)
3. Having heard the gospel, respond with consecrated service (vv.38–39)
Sermon Title: Beware the friendly advice of the devil
Passage: Luke 4:1-15
Big Idea: Reject the friendly devil’s temptation to be your own man, and rely on Jesus, who triumphed as the Son of God by trusting his Father’s word.
1. The Son won’t be his own provider, but lives by his Father’s word (vv.1–4)
2. The Son won’t be his own king, but worships his Father alone (vv.5–8)
3. The Son won’t orchestrate his own salvation, but trusts his Father without testing him (vv.9–15)
